北欧の自然や伝統的な物語に育まれた“魔法の手”を持つ、スウェーデンの切り絵作家アグネータ・フロック。彼女はテキスタイル作家として独自の世界を築き上げた後、切り絵と出会い、独創的でファンタジー溢れる切り絵の世界を表現し続けています。見るものの心に幸福感をもたらして止まないアグネータの作品は、日々の小さな出来事に喜びを見出す彼女のライフスタイルとともに、日本でも多くの人を魅了しています。

本展では、彼女の原点でもある織の作品や、未発表作品を含む切り絵の代表作を一堂に展観し、北欧の深い精神性を受け継ぐアグネータの作品と暮らしの魅力に迫ります。

Profile　Agneta Flock / アグネータ･フロック
1941年､スウェーデン・イェテボリー生まれ。1965年、スウェーデン国立芸術工芸デザイン大学コンストファック、テキスタイル科卒業。40年以上テキスタイル作家として活動した後、切り絵作品の制作を本格的に始める。2004年にＮＨＫ「おしゃれ工房」に登場。さらに同テキスト目次に２年間にわたり作品を連載するなど幅広く活躍。2011年、NHKBSプレミアムで｢ハイビジョン特集アグネータと魔法の切り絵｣が放送され、大きな反響を呼んだ。

Drawing inspiration from Sweden’s beautiful nature and Europe’s traditional folk tales, artist Agneta Flock has started to create her fanciful papercuts after having already established a unique world of textile design. Until today she continues to bring forth these magical papercuts, which, together with her stance to enjoy the small things and little pleasures of everyday life, keep enchanting people in Japan as well as abroad.
Besides woven textiles, which can be said to be one of the origins of her artistic career, this exhibition will show representative papercut works, some of which will be exhibited for the first time and in doing so grants us an insight into the artistic and everyday life of Agneta Flock as well as into the spirit of North Europe which both are deeply imbedded in.

Profile　Agneta Flock
Born 1941 in Gothenburg, Sweden. After majoring in textile design at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Agneta Flock, worked as textile artist for more than 40 years until she started creating papercut works on a full scale. In 2004 she was featured in NHK’s television program oshare kobo (fashion atelier), after which her papercuts were used for the design of the accompanying magazine for two consecutive years. In 2011, NHK BS Premium broadcasted the high-vision special program “Agneta and her magical papercuts”, which created enthusiastic responses.

「大原治雄写真展　―ブラジルの光、家族の風景」は、日系移民としてブラジルへわたり、アマチュア写真家として活動後、ブラジル国内で高い評価を得た”知られざる写真の巨匠”大原治雄の日本で初めての大規模な回顧展となります。過酷な開拓生活の中で、アマチュア写真家として身近な風景をとらえることに歓びを見出した大原の作品は、ブラジル国内で高い評価を得、ブラジル最高峰の写真美術館「モレイラ・サーレス財団」に作品が収蔵される唯一の日本人写真家でもあります。その芸術性に優れた作品群はもちろん、移民としてブラジルへ渡った大原の人生を追体験することにより、多くの日系人たちの歴史をも垣間見ることの出来る貴重な展覧会となります。

大原治雄は、1909年、高知県吾川郡三瀬村（現・いの町）に生まれました。 1927年、17歳で父母兄弟らと集団移民としてブラジルに渡り、はじめサンパウロの農園で農場労働者として働き、その後未開拓の地、パラナ州ロンドリーナに最初の開拓者の一人として入植します。 28歳の頃に小型カメラを購入し、農作業の合間に趣味で写真を撮るようになります。独自に研究を重ねながら技術を習得し、次第にカメラに没頭していきます。 1951年には、サンパウロの「バンデイランテス・フォトシネ・クラブ」に入会。国内外の写真展にも出品するようになります。当時はほとんど無名のアマチュア写真家でしたが、1970年代初頭頃から徐々に知られ始め、地元パラナの新聞などで紹介されるようになります。 1998年、「ロンドリーナ国際フェスティバル」で初の個展が開催され、大きな反響を呼びます。その後、「クリチバ市国際写真ビエンナーレ」（パラナ州）に第２回(1998年）、第３回（2000年）と連続で紹介され、高い評価を受けました。

1999年、大原は家族に見守られながら89歳で永眠します。 2008年、「日本人ブラジル移民100周年」の記念の年に、遺族によりオリジナルプリント、ネガフィルム、写真用機材、蔵書、日記など一連の資料が、ブラジル屈指の写真美術館でありアーカイブである「モレイラ・サーレス財団」（IMS、Instituto Moreira Salles）に寄贈されました。

本展では、IMSのコレクションから、約180点のプリント作品、愛用のカメラ、ブラジルに出発してから60年以上日々欠かさず書いていた日記など関連資料も併せて展示します。遥かブラジルの地に渡り、家族や仲間たちと切り拓き育て上げた広大な農場、そこで働く農民の日常風景、そして愛する家族の姿をこつこつと穏やかに写した大原の写真から、人々の心に存在する普遍的な人間や自然の賛歌を感じていただけることでしょう。

2015年は「日本・ブラジル外交関係樹立120周年」にあたり、11月にはＮＨＫ特別番組「新天地に挑んだ日本人～日本・ブラジル120年～」が放映されました。番組内では大原治雄と、「ブラジルでもっとも有名な日本人」と言われているもう一人の日系人アーティスト、大竹富江が紹介され、ブラジル社会で信頼を築いた日系移民の姿にせまり、日本とブラジル、その120年の歴史と今を、2人の移民の人生から描きだされ大きな反響を呼びました。

The Light of Brazil – Family Sceneries is the first large-scale retrospective of unknown master photographer Ohara Haruo to be held in Japan. Living a rough life as an immigrant settler in Brazil, Ohara found joy in taking photographs of his every day surroundings. These photographs received wide acclaim in Brazil and became the only photographs of a Japanese-Brazilian to be housed at the Instituto Moreira Salles, one of Brazil’s leading institutions for the preservation and research of Brazilian photography and art in general. This exhibition not only shows Ohara’s masterful photographs, but in doing so also allows the visitor to get a glimpse of the life and history of Japanese born immigrants in Brazil.
Ohara Haruo was born 1909 in Misemura (present-day town of Ino) in the district of Agagawa, located in the prefecture Kochi on the south coast of Shikoku. In 1927, at the age of seventeen he and his family immigrated to Brazil as part of a larger group of Japanese people leaving their home country for South America. After arriving in Brazil he first worked as farm laborer in São Paulo and later moved to the undeveloped areas of Londrina in the state of Paraná as one of the first to settle there. Around the age of 28 he bought a miniature camera and started taking pictures when he had time to spare from work. He studied and finally mastered photographic technique on his own and gradually became more and more immersed in photography. In 1951, he became a member of the photographic association Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante and began exhibiting his works at exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. It wasn’t, however, until the early 1970s that he attracted attention from local newspapers and subsequently became known to a broader public. In 1998 he held his first solo-exhibition at the Londrina House of Culture, which created considerable reaction from critics and visitors alike. His works were also introduced to the public at the 2nd and 3rd International Biennial of Photography in Londrina in 1998 and 2000, respectively, where they received wide acclaim.
Surrounded by his family, he died 1999 at the age of 89. In 2008, the year of the 100th Anniversary of Japanese Immigrants in Brazil, his family donated his archives – original prints, negatives, photographic equipment, books and diaries – to the Instituto Moreira Salles. This exhibition shows 180 works from the Instituto Moreira Salles’ archive along with Ohara’s favourite cameras and other material such as his diaries, which he kept every single day from the time he left Japan until his death.

2015 is the year of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationships between Brazil and Japan, which was commemorated by NHK broadcasting the television special ‘Japanese breaking new ground – 120 years Brazil-Japan’. This program portrayed the lives of Japanese-born immigrants who built a reputation in the Brazilian society and introduced Ohara Haruo together with another Japanese-born Brazilian artist, Ohtake Tomie, as the “most well known Japanese in Brazil”. Based on the depiction of the lives of these two artist, it outlined not only the past 120 years but also the present of the Brazil-Japanese relationships for which it received wide acclaim.

ジャック＝アンリ・ラルティーグ初の大規模な回顧展がニューヨーク近代美術館で開催され一躍脚光を浴びたのは、1963年、ラルティーグ69歳の年でした。70歳を目前にしたあまりにも遅咲きのデビューは、世界中に大きな衝撃を与えました。以来、この〝偉大なるアマチュア写真家″の展覧会、出版が世界各地で相次ぎ、現在では写真の巨匠としてその名前は写真史に大きく刻まれています。

ジャック＝アンリ・ラルティーグは、1894年、フランス、パリ郊外クルブヴォワの非常に裕福なブルジョワの家庭に生まれました。７歳のラルティーグ少年は、写真好きの父親に、初めてのカメラとなるガラス乾板を使う木製ビューカメラを買ってもらいます。絵を描くことが大好きだったラルティーグ少年は、この“魔法のおもちゃ”に夢中になり、あくまで自分の楽しみのためだけに、愛するものたちとの幸せな時間を記録し続けました。

アール・ヌーボー最盛期のフランスで富裕な家庭で育ったラルティーグ少年は、その目撃者でもありました。カメラが非常に高価だった時代、写真は一握りの人だけが享受できる贅沢な趣味の一つであり、写真がおもちゃ代わりでもあったという事実は、ラルティーグの家庭がいかに裕福な家庭だったかをも物語っています。自動車、飛行機、テニス、海辺のヴァカンス、当時の最新モードに身を包んだ女性たち・・・
ラルティーグが自分の楽しみのためだけに記録していたこれらの写真は、文化、芸術、産業などすべてが輝きをもっていた古き良き時代の貴重な財産ともなっています。

本展では、子ども時代から晩年までの代表的な作品と、その多くが日本初公開であるカラー作品など約160点を通して、写真を楽しみ、過ぎ行く時間や人生の歓びをつかまえようとしたラルティーグの世界をご紹介します。

Life is this wonderful thing, dancing, jumping, flying, laughing
…and passing.
It was 1963, the year Jacques Henri Lartigue turned 69, when the first large-scale retrospective of his works was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The late debut, shortly before his 70th birthday, exerted a great impact all around the world, resulting in successive publications and exhibitions of this “great amateur photographer” that finally made him into the master photographer art history remembers him as today.
Lartigue was born 1894 in Courbevoie, a suburb of Paris, to a wealthy bourgeois family. At the age of seven, his father, who was a connoisseur in photography, bought him his first camera, a wooden view camera that uses a gelatin dry plate. The young boy, who also loved to paint, soon became absorbed with his “magical toy” and continued throughout his life to document the joyful moments with the things he loved.
Born into a wealthy family in France around the Fin de siècle he was also witness to the golden age of Art Nouveau. Given that back then photographic cameras were luxury items and photography a hobby only a handful of people were able to pursue, the fact that a camera for the young Lartigue was something like a toy, bespeaks of the enormous wealth of the Lartigue family. Automobiles, planes, tennis, trips to the seaside, women wearing the newest fashion – while Lartigue took photographs mostly for his own pleasure, they also bear valuable testimony to this ‘good old period’ and its illustrious culture, art and industry.
This exhibition shows around 160 images, from representative works of Lartigue’s youth until his later years, to color photographs of which a large proportion is being exhibited in Japan for the first time. And in doing so, it allows a glimpse at the world of Lartigue enjoying photography, of him chasing passing moments, chasing the joys of life.
